The extern will:
The extern is expected to work 16 hours per week for the entire academic year providing individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and outreach to the campus community.
Individual Counseling: The extern will have a minimum of two to three individual clients and one to two intakes per week. Cases will be selected based on the appropriateness for the trainee. In each case, a licensed psychologist of the Counseling Center will consult and discuss the case with the trainee to determine if a case is appropriate.
Group Counseling: This advanced practica/externship offers the opportunity to apply group counseling knowledge and skills in a university counseling center setting. The trainee will co-lead with a psychologist and will receive up to 1.5 hours of supervision for each group session (includes planning, post-session debriefing and session documentation).
Outreach Experience: The extern will have the opportunity to hone public-speaking skills by providing psycho-educational presentations for University of Baltimore's campus community. Examples of outreach programming through the Counseling Center may include National Depression Screenings, participation in informational fairs and conducting workshops in freshman seminar classes.
