University of Baltimore -- The School of Public and International Affairs in the College of Public Affairs invites applications for a faculty position to begin in August 2013 (contingent on final budget approval). Rank and tenure status is open. This position requires traditional classroom instruction at the graduate level but may also involve limited undergraduate and/or online instruction.

The Negotiations and Conflict Management (CNCM) program is seeking an individual that can contribute new expertise to the graduate program. Scholarly specialization is open but individuals that emphasize Conflict Management practice will be given particular attention. Appropriate specializations might include interpersonal, organizational, communal, or international Conflict Management. Practitioners and those that demonstrate the ability to teach intervention skills are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants with significant experience leading community based Conflict Management organizations, non-profits, state or federal agencies, or those with significant links to or reputations for leadership in the practice community may also be considered for a non-tenured Executive in Residence position.

Candidates for this position must hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment in the Conflict Management field, broadly construed to include peace studies, conflict analysis and resolution, conflict management, conflict transformation, or a similar course of study. Individuals with conventional and interdisciplinary degrees related to the Conflict Management field are also encouraged to apply.

Tenure track candidates should have a record of scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor  and clearly demonstrate the potential for quality university instruction and service to their profession and the university. All candidates should be capable of teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as in a potential certificate program. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be joining the well-established graduate program in Negotiations and Conflict Management (CNCM), an applied, cross-disciplinary Masters of Science program in the School of Public and International Affairs. The CNCM program is designed to expose students to conflict management in a variety of settings from the interpersonal to the international. The program’s 42-credit curriculum is delivered through a series of applied courses that enable students to see the link between conflict management theory and practice and prepares them for post-graduate success in a variety of settings in which conflict management skills are necessary.

With 3 full-time faculty and several highly regarded adjunct faculty, the CNCM program has approximately 120 degree-seeking students and is now in its 14th year. The broader School of Public and International Affairs has twenty distinguished full-time faculty with advanced degrees from an array of distinguished universities, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, UC, Berkley, and George Mason University. Three faculty members are Fellows in the National Academy of Public Administration and one is a Fulbright Scholar. The School is home to a nationally accredited Masters of Public Administration program.
