University of Baltimore (UB) – The School of Communications Design seeks a full-time, open rank, tenure-track professor of social media specializing in cross media applications and theory. Position begins August 2014 (contingent on final budgetary approval). Review of applications will begin October 15 and continue until the position is filled.
Candidates for this position must have, or be working on, a terminal degree in Communication or a related field. Some experience with social media required.
The UB School of Communications Design is a vibrant core to the university’s applied liberal arts program, as well as the home to several innovative majors, including a brand-new major in Digital Communication. This major has three tracks: Digital Theory & Culture, Media Design & Production, and Public Relations. Our other divisional undergraduate programs are Integrated Arts and English. Our graduate programs are an MA in Publications Design and MFAs in Integrated Design and Creative Writing & Publishing Arts.

We are searching for a new faculty colleague to assist in continually evolving our programs in this rapidly changing field while assisting students in developing their individual capacities for creativity, problem solving, life-long learning, and flexibility in the face of change. The successful candidate will be aware of the pedagogical implications of all aspects of the digital environment and have a passion for student learning and for developing a 21st century curriculum reflecting the pervasiveness of technology.
We seek a cross media specialist with expertise in several of the following:
• social media theory, design, and functionality;
• cross-media interactivity;
• public relations implementation strategy;
• social media content generation;
• writing for digital media.
• Teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses as required;
• Participation in professional growth activities and continuous awareness, development, and integration of trends and developments in the field;
• Integrating innovations in this constantly changing field into the classroom as appropriate;
• Conducting and publishing research or creative work product in areas of specialization;
• Serving collegially on committees at the division, college, and university levels;
• Working on curriculum and program development;
• Assuming other duties normally expected of full-time faculty members at a comprehensive university.

Required: Candidates with degree in communication studies or related discipline. ABD considered with demonstrated progress on dissertation. Candidates must have higher education teaching experience, and the potential to work collaboratively as active members of a faculty that maintains a research/creative agenda, contributes to program and curriculum development, and participates in university service and other areas of faculty responsibility.
Preferred: Candidates with a terminal degree (Ph.D. or M.F.A) in communication studies or related discipline. A promising agenda for professional and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of assistant professor; demonstrated excellence in teaching; and 3-5 years of higher education involvement.
