University of Baltimore—the School of Public & International Affairs (SPIA) in the College of Public Affairs invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position (rank open) in public policy to begin in August 2014 (contingent on final budgetary approval). The successful candidate will have teaching, research, and service expectations commensurate with rank.  Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the School’s Government and Public Policy (B.A.), Master of Public Administration (MPA), and Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) programs. Preferences will be given to those with specializations in one or more of the following areas:  policy analysis, policy implementation, urban informatics, political analytics, or research methods.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes both in-person and online.  They will also be expected to collaborate across academic units to further strengthen the College’s applied research initiatives.

In addition to SPIA, the College of Public Affairs houses the School of Health and Human Services and the School of Criminal Justice. The School of Public and International Affairs has twenty full-time faculty members with advanced degrees from leading higher education institutions such as Syracuse University, Harvard, The University of California-Berkeley, American University, Rutgers University, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Albany. Three faculty members are fellows in the National Academy of Public Administration (NASPAA) and one is a Fulbright Scholar. Faculty members are actively involved in applied research and grant contracts with federal, state, and local government, not-for-profit, and private sector organizations.

The University of Baltimore is part of the University System of Maryland and serves a diverse urban professional community. SPIA offers bachelor’s degrees in Government and Public Policy and International Studies, master’s degrees in Public Administration, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Global Governance and Human Security, Nonprofit Management, and a doctorate in Public Administration. The MPA Program is accredited by the NASPAA. The School offers a joint program with the School of Law (JD/MPA).  

Candidates for this position must hold a doctorate in public policy, public administration, political science, or other related discipline. Associate or Full Professor candidates must demonstrate evidence of scholarly achievement which may include peer-reviewed and other publications (articles, books, monographs, applied research reports), experience with extramural grants and contracts, and recognition within his or her profession and/or discipline, as well as quality instruction, curriculum design, and supervision of student projects where appropriate. Candidates for the tenure track Assistant Professor level should demonstrate the potential for meeting these criteria. All candidates should demonstrate experience in, or potential for, service relevant to the university, academic profession, and/or community.
