The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Physical Plant and Housekeeping departments and providing leadership to its 60 employees.  The director will administer and direct operations and maintenance, housekeeping, and facility renewal projects, and provide team support to capital planning, engineering and construction projects.  As a senior member of the Facilities Management and Capital Planning organization, the director collaborates with the Associate Vice President of Facilities Management and Capital Planning on the development and implementation of both a short and long term facilities strategy that anticipates continued growth and expansion requirements while ensuring optimal and sustainable utilization of existing facilities.  This position also promotes the value of diversity, safety, and environmental consciousness in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:
-Managing the operations of the Department of Facilities Management in maintaining the physical assets of the University
-Supervising, mentoring, and overseeing operations of the Physical Plant, Housekeeping, and team managers
-Monitoring the performance of outside contractors, including administering awards of contracts for service and maintenance.  Collaborates closely with Procurement to ensure external contractors are evaluated accurately and managed according to University standards
-Developing, monitoring, and coordinating facilities planning activities such as space inventory, space utilization, energy management, and facilities renewal
-Supports the Department in the administration of capital projects from planning through completed construction and commissioning
-Developing and implementing a long term, state of the art enterprise-wide facility management strategy and operations plan

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 8-10 years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including at least 5 years of experience in a leadership/management role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as all relevant federal, state, and local laws, University regulations, and programs/policies for meeting compliance
• Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision
• Skill in managing direction of senior staff and the ability to mentor subordinates
• Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make decisions
• Ability to network and interact, as well as support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals
• Ability to address multiple tasks, technical issues and contingencies at the same time
• Knowledge of relevant regulations regarding specialty area (such as OSHA regulations)
• Ability to exert force up to 70 lbs., work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions as well as the ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment
• Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

•Click the plus sign to the left of "References" to enter two professional references.
•After you enter your education information and references, click “Save,” then click “Next.”

•After you enter this information, click “Save,” then click “Next.”

4. Online Questionnaire/Application Questionnaire: Answer the questions requiring a yes or no response. After you answer them, click “Submit.” This leads you to the Submit Online Application page.
