This Librarian I position in Integrated Digital Services is ideal for someone new or relatively new in the field and passionate about innovating with technology and working collaboratively with other library staff.  Reporting to the Head of Integrated Digital Services, the Integrated Digital Services Librarian maintains and supports Langsdale and USM library systems, hardware and software. She/he will participate in collaborative design and development of new library technology services. The successful candidate will also work on USM library initiatives such as the implementation of the next-generation consortia integrated library system, discovery services and other new technologies.

Required Education and Experience
MLS from ALA-accredited library school or equivalent degree

Preferred Education and Experience
MLS from ALA-accredited library school or equivalent degree, focused on library systems and/or digital services

1-3 years experience in academic library.
1-2 years supporting IT systems in an academic setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to provide technical support in the use of hardware and software, in both the Windows and OSX environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of new technologies in the library setting with the ability to acquire new skills and resolve problems quickly.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with others in a cooperative manner within a team environment and with those of varying degrees of technological aptitude.
  • Web programming skills (such as JavaScript, ColdFusion, HTML, CSS).
  • Familiarity with the principles of web site design and maintenance.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to customer service.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and participation in professional activities.
