Information About WRIT 300
-
WRIT 300 requires a placement test; visit the Placement Testing page for more information. Transfer students are expected to have taken the writing placement test prior to registering for their second semester at UB. Students admitted as first-year students should take this placement test once they have completed 45 undergraduate credits.
-
You will register for and attend a section of WRIT 300 appropriate for your major.
See the list of majors and corresponding section "numbers" for WRIT 300. Note that WRIT 300 will not be offered for all majors during all semesters, so please work with your program director to plan ahead. WRIT 300 also is not offered during summer sessions.
-
Each week during the semester, you’ll meet with your instructor and classmates face to face for one class session (an hour and 20 minutes), and the rest of your weekly interaction and work will be completed in UBOnline. To determine which sections are offered fully online, refer to the course listings in your MyUB My Student Center; only fully online sections will have "Room" listed as "WEB." When you click on the section for further information, fully online courses will have "Location" and "Instruction Mode" listed as "Web."
-
Your WRIT 300 experience will include assignments relevant to your major. You will read discipline-specific materials and apply what you’ve learned about writing to those materials. You will also review your classmates’ work, receive feedback from your writing instructor, complete writing exercises and participate in virtual discussions.
What this means for you is that you’ll:
- write and learn about topics related to your major
- write in ways that reflect the writing required by your discipline of study
- gain exposure to UBOnline, which is used by many UB professors
- receive more feedback than you typically do
- receive significant feedback from your classmates and instructor
- experience many opportunities to revise your writing.
If you have any questions about WRIT 300, contact Professor John Goshert, director of writing, at jgoshert@ubalt.edu. If you have questions about the placement test, contact the Achievement and Learning Center.
Once you enroll in the course, use the many resources available at UB to help you succeed, including your instructors, the University’s UBOnline Help Desk staff and the Achievement and Learning Center.
