The College of Public Affairs welcomes legendary civil rights activist Joan Trumpauer Mulholland to the University of Baltimore to discuss her life as a white southerner working to end racism and discrimination in the Jim Crow South. A Freedom Rider who participated in the Jackson Woolworth sit-in and helped plan and organize the March on Washington, Mulholland had participated in more than 50 sit-ins and protests by the time she was 23 years old.

The evening will begin with An Ordinary Hero, the award-winning documentary about Joan’s lifelong quest for racial justice. Following the screening, through an interview conducted by Taylor Branch, renowned civil rights historian, she will share her personal experiences and observations from the front lines of the civil rights movement and then take discussion questions from the audience.

Please join us for a fascinating, firsthand look at one of the most transformative periods in American history.
