Political Ethics in Maryland: A Panel Discussion

The University of Baltimore's Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics will present a panel discussion, "Political Ethics in Maryland," featuring guests with extensive expertise in ethics, journalism and the law. The event is free and open, although an R.S.V.P. is required (see below for details). It will begin with a light reception in the Bogomolny Room in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave., then move to the adjacent Wright Theater for the panel discussion.
The panelists are Emmet C. Davitt, Maryland state prosecutor; Andrea Leahy-Fucheck, member of the Maryland Ethics Commission; and Jayne Miller, senior investigative reporter for WBAL-TV.
Before Davitt was appointed as a state prosecutor, he served as deputy general counsel for the Public Service Commission of Maryland. He spent much of his career as an assistant attorney general in the Maryland Attorney General's Office.
Leahy-Fucheck has had the unique experience of working at the federal, state and local levels, as an assistant United States attorney, as chief counsel to the governor of Maryland, and as an associate county attorney for Prince George's County.
Miller is known throughout the Baltimore region via her long tenure with WBAL-TV. She has been a reporter with the station for more than 25 years, first as a general assignment reporter, then as the consumer advocate with "11 on Your Side," and now as the chief investigative reporter with the 11 Investigates I-Team.
Panel moderator John T. Willis is senior executive in residence for the College of Public and International Affairs at UB, senior research associate for the University's Schaefer Center for Public Policy, and director of government and public policy at UB.
Willis has conducted extensive research on Maryland political history, elections and demographics and has authored several publications and significant reports on these and related topics. He is the author of Presidential Elections in Maryland, a contributing author to Western Maryland: A Profile, and the co-author of a book, Maryland Politics and Government, recently published by the University of Nebraska Press as part of a national state series. Willis is a frequent contributor to broadcast and print media, and has testified on numerous occasions before federal and state legislative and executive committees.
