Accounting Professor Named to State Board for Public Accountancy

Phillip Korb, associate professor of accounting in the University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business, has been appointed to the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy by Gov. Martin O'Malley. Korb, who chairs the school's Department of Accounting and specializes in teaching and research in personal income taxation, estates and trusts, will serve a three-year term on the board.
Part of the state's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, the Board of Public Accountancy "qualifies, licenses and regulates individuals seeking licensure to practice as a certified public accountant and firms that offer public accounting services," and "investigates complaints against licensees, as well as complaints related to unlicensed practice," according to its web page.
Korb will provide expertise in education as it pertains to certified public accounting exams and other licensing issues, and will vote on all matters that come before the board.
