The Daily Record has named 13 members of the University of Baltimore community to its 2015 list of "Maryland's Top 100 Women," including Jill Green, J.D. '94, assistant dean of the University of Baltimore School of Law, and Renita Seabrook, assistant professor in the School of Criminal Justice within the College of Public Affairs. In addition, 11 UB alumnae are included in this year's list.
The Daily Record said that nearly 400 women were nominated for the statewide honor. Nominees are asked to describe their educational and career history, professional and community involvement, corporate and nonprofit board memberships, and mentoring experience. They are encouraged to submit letters of recommendation from those who are familiar with their accomplishments professionally, in the community and through mentoring.
A panel of judges comprised of business professionals and past Maryland's Top 100 Women winners from throughout Maryland reviewed the applications and selected this year's honorees.
Green has served in the Law Career Development Center in the School of Law since December 2008, and as assistant dean since 2011. A 1994 graduate of the school, Green began teaching at the School of Law as an adjunct in 2006 after completing an appointment as visiting clinical professor at the University of Maine School of Law. Prior to her clinical appointment, Green practiced for more than 10 years as an attorney working on behalf of victims of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect. Green pioneered the School of Law's newest leadership initiative, Women Lawyers as Leaders, and continues her commitment to public interest efforts such as the school's Pro Bono Challenge, Alternative Spring Break, and Apprentice Fellowships. In 2014, she received both the Judge Bell Award for Leadership in Public Service and the James May Faculty Mentoring Award.
Seabrook has been an assistant professor in UB's School of Criminal Justice since 2009. Her research and applied experience covers criminal justice, offender rehabilitation, probation/parole, program evaluation and criminological theory, with a special interest in cognitive behavioral theory. Before coming to UB, she spent 10 years working for various state governmental agencies in Georgia, New Jersey and Virginia. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Prisoners on Prison, and in 2014 she was named a Community Fellow by the Open Society Institute-Baltimore for her community activism and social entrepreneurship.
"We are always pleased to see the faculty and alumni of UB recognized for the high quality of their contributions to their professions and to the community," said UB President Kurt L. Schmoke.
