Student Course Performance and Learning Behaviors
The Faculty Cohort on Student Course Performance and Learning Behaviors is a one-year program (May 2013-May 2014) designed to significantly enhance the capacity of UB faculty to diagnose/analyze students’ course performance and learning behaviors and develop projects that improve both. The cohort will draw on the latest national research on engaged learning as well as insights from faculty colleagues at UB. The cohort will be led by Nancy O’Neill, co-director of CELTT, and Daniel Page, assistant dean, Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences. At its heart, this is an inquiry-based project where faculty members probe specific issues related to student success in their courses and then experiment with, and assess the impact of, new pedagogies or other interventions in concert with colleagues.

Community-Based Learning
The Faculty Cohort on Community-Based Learning is a one-year program (May 2013-May 2014) designed to significantly enhance the capacity of UB faculty to integrate a new, significant community-based learning component into a new or existing course. No knowledge of or experience with community-based learning is required. The cohort will draw on national best practices in community-based learning as well as insights from faculty colleagues at UB. This cohort will be led by Nancy O’Neill, co-director of CELTT, and Stephen Percy, dean, College of Public Affairs. Through a combination of intensive planning meetings and regular check-ins, participants will collaboratively explore best practices related to community-based learning, implement their own community-based learning course, assess the impact of the changes made to their courses, and then share their experiences with a wider network of faculty and staff colleagues at the conclusion of the cohort. Cohort participants will be expected to teach the course with community-based learning in the spring 2014 semester. Faculty selected for this cohort must be available to attend a day-long workshop on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 and two additional half-day planning meetings during summer 2013, which will be built around the cohort members' schedules.

In addition to the engagement and support of colleagues, cohort participants will receive a $2,000 stipend to be paid throughout the year after the completion of specific activities and deliverables.
