Registration is required for all workshops.

All Learning and Success Workshops are free for UB Students. You may register for any of our free workshops using UB's online calendar

If you are interested in one of our Learning and Performance Management Workshops, but you're unable to attend, you can meet with our Academic Coach, Cydney Delia for a one-on-one appointment. Simply visit our online appointment system, and schedule an appointment with Cydney on our Academic Coaching schedule.

Whether you're just beginning your college career or coming back to school after taking years off, these workshops can help get you up to speed and sharpen your skills. 

      • Time Management:

        Learning to Juggle

        Get tips for avoiding procrastination and for meeting deadlines. Create a schedule that will help you prioritize and achieve your goals this semester.

      • Reading Strategies:

        You Don’t Have to Read Every Word

        Improve your attention, comprehension and memory by changing your reading style. Get tips on effective approaches to each medium, whether it is a textbook, a case study or a journal article.

      • Note Taking:

        Don't Miss a Beat

        Don’t miss anything! Learn note-taking survival skills for heavily lecture-based classes, and how to synthesize reading and lecture notes for efficient studying. We’ll also cover how to incorporate technology into your note taking and what to do before and after the lecture to “make it stick.”

          Cramming 101

          Turn test anxiety into test assurance: learn strategies for multiple-choice exams and timed essays. Also, get tips for managing test anxiety and suggestions on how soon to start studying.

          Organic Ritalin

          Having trouble focusing? Learn some basic principles behind attention and concentration and get the scoop on recent brain research that may change how you study.

        • Learning Strategies:

          I Hear … I See … I Do … I Understand

          How do you learn best? Complete a survey to find out, and then learn study strategies suited to your unique learning style. You’ll also get tips on adapting to different teaching styles.

          • Prep for a Cumulative Final:

            Get It Together

            Freaking out about finals? Learn a proven system for approaching a cumulative final. No matter the course, you’ll gain strategies to help you approach your finals with confidence.

New Approaches Workshops

          • How to Get There

            Setting realistic goals is important, but goals alone won’t get you there. Get familiar with the mental habits and mindset that researchers have found most strongly linked to motivation and success.  You'll also get tips on anticipating barriers and keeping your drive alive in the face of challenges and setbacks.

          • Brainstorming: Making Ideas Happen

            Having trouble getting started? Brainstorm effectively by exploring creative practices, choosing your best work environment, and scheduling time to let good ideas grow. Regardless of your major, you can benefit from some hands-on practice with concept generation.

          • Mathbusters

            What if math was something you enjoyed? Could it change your academic life? Your career? Excelling at math or statistics takes work, but how you think about math can affect how much you learn. Learn about some of the most common myths and causes of frustration related to math, and explore behaviors that can help you feel more comfortable working with numbers.

          • Creative Problem-Solving

            Working against a deadline and with limited resources? Running into unexpected problems? Use creative problem solving and critical thinking to follow through with your assignment or project, even when everything else gets in the way.

          • Perform When It Matters

            It happens to all of us at least once: You learned something, but maybe it didn't show when it really mattered--the answer didn't come, your ideas did flow or distracting thoughts got in the way. Learn about cutting-edge insights and  tips that will help you focus and fully engage your brain when it matters most, whether it's on a test or at a job interview.
