    2013 Summer Financial Aid
    Students will be awarded for summer based upon enrollment.  If you have Federal Direct Stafford Loan eligibility remaining for use during the summer, you should receive a summer financial aid award on MyUB, and a summer financial aid award letter within a week of registering at least half time, (for summer only half time is 3 credits). If you have used all Federal Direct Stafford Eligiblity, you may have eligibility for the Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loan. Applications open on April 15, 2013

    The Graduate PLUS Loan is available on www.studentloans.gov for the summer semester.  Once the Department of Education has approved your loan, you will see it on your MyUB Portal within 3 business days.

    Satisfactory Academic Progress Review For Summer/Fall eligibility begins
    As grades for Spring 2013 classes are reported our office will review all students who were on Probation (Academic Plan), Warning or Not meets.  Students who meet the minimum requirements, once all spring grades are reviewed, will be set back to meets and any pending summer financial aid will be cleared for disbursement.  Students who are failing to meet the minimum requirements, but have met the terms of their probation will be cleared for disbursement.  Students who are not meeting the minimum requirements of the SAP policy (or their probation terms) will be set to not meets and do not qualify for further aid until a SAP appeal has been approved, or the students grades and completion ratio have been brought back to the minimum requirements.  Please review SAP Policy.

    The Office of Financial Aid will begin to credit financial aid funds to UB student accounts today. (Eligible students must have all steps complete, graduate plus credit approved, enrollment verified and have a Satisfactory Academic Progress Status of  Meets, Warning or Probation.)    Refund checks are expected to be mailed from Annapolis within 10 business days of when “Refund Student Annapolis” is listed on your UB account activity.

    Summer Financial Aid

    Summer 2013 Class Schedule changes mean changes to financial aid processing. Student aid to cover the 2nd 5 week session being offered will not receive aid until that session begins.

    Enrollment Reminder – Financial Aid Awards are estimates, and will be updated to reflect actual enrollment prior to Disbursement.

    Different types of aid, have different enrollment requirements. Requirements for individual Grants and Scholarships are hyperlinked on MyUB in the “View Financial Aid” section of your “My Student Center”

    Federal Pell Grants (undergraduate only) are awarded based upon enrollment and EFC from the FAFSA. Check the Pell Calculator at http://www.ubalt.edu/admission/financial-aid/pell-grant-calculator.cfm

    Federal Stafford, Parent Plus and Graduate Plus loans require at least half time enrollment.   The minimum enrollment to be considered half time that will apply to your degree or certificate at UB.

    Undergraduate: half-time is 6 credits (all semesters)
    Graduate: half-time is 3 credits (summer semester only - fall and spring half-time is 6 credits)

    Students who can not enroll half time but would like to be considered for a student loan to cover tuition and fees should contact the Financial Aid Office by email at financialaid@ubalt.edu

    Fall registration begins soon.  
    Check your student account to make sure all Spring aid disbursed and that you do not have an outstanding bill.  Common reasons a students with Financial Aid that initially covered their bill may have an additional bill are if classes were added or swapped after a refund was written, a bookstore credit is requested late or withdrew from classes for which you have received aid.  Financial Aid is "earned" by successfully completing classes, failure to do so can result in a reduction of aid and a resulting unpaid bill.  Unpaid bills will block future enrollment.

    New student awards begin
    New students who have been admitted with a complete 2013/2014 FAFSA will begin being awarded financial aid for the fall 2013/spring 2014 terms.  A completed FAFSA as well as admission and any other documentation requested is required to receive a financial aid award, including any federal or state eligibility.

    The Bookstore Credit program allows students to place a charge on their fall bill, that will allow them to purchase testbooks at the UB Bookstore prior to receiving expected Financial Aid Refunds.  It is meant to help students purchase textbooks and supplies to support academic success.  Before submitting a request check that:
    • sufficient financial aid will be availble to cover the requested funds
    • you have an accurate estimate of the cost of books
    • you have completed enrollment and books for all classes have been confirmed

    The Bookstore Credit will not be available for purchase until July 29, 2013 online and August 12, 2013 in the bookstore, so confirm accurate enrollment, textbook requirements and financial eligiblity before requesting a Bookstore Credit.

  • 2013 - 2014 Grad/Undergrad Financial Aid Calendar

    2013-2014 FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.gov

    IMPORTANT STATE OF MARYLAND GRANT INFORMATION:

    The March 1st deadline to be considered for the undergraduate Educational Assistance Grant and the Guarenteed Access Grant is an absolute requirement. Follow the guidance and submit your fafsa on time. But just as important is to understand that:

    Maryland Higher Education does not make awards to students who:

    • List a PO Box on their FAFSA
    • Have a rejected FAFSA due to a lack of signature, either student or parent
    • Do not list a Maryland School on their initial FAFSA

    While these items may be appealable please plan ahead and avoid issues. If you feel your family income may qualify you for state awards please pay attention to these requirements. New state awards must be accepted, watch for emails and letters from MHEC (Maryland Higher Education Commission.), expected in April. Accept your award for your most likely Maryland State School, you will have the opportunity to amend this, if you attend a different Maryland School.

    Check your student account to make sure all fall aid has disbursed and that you do not have an outstanding bill.  Holds are listed on your ToDo list.  Common reasons a student with Financial Aid that initially covered their bill may have an additional bill are:
    • added or swapped classes after a refund was written
    • bookstore credit request after a refund was written
    • withdrew from a class or classes
    • not meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements to have aid disbursed
    • unpaid bill from a prior semester.  Even if you received a refund for fall 2012, you may still have a bill from a prior semester as federal regulations restrict using the federal protion of a refund to pay for enrollment in a prior year.

    Financial aid is "earned" by successfully completing classes, failure to do so can result in a reduction or cancellation of aid and a resulting unpaid bill.  Unpaid bills will block future enrollment.
