For summer 2012 there is no financial aid application required. Enroll half time (three credits for law, graduate and APD students) and we will prepare a financial aid award for you. The award will consist of:
- Any remaining Direct Stafford Loan eligibility not borrowed for fall 2011 or spring 2012. If you have already borrowed $20,500 (the amount may be less if you are at or near your lifetime limits) you will have no remaining Stafford eligibility.
- Direct Graduate Plus eligibility up to the amount of your summer financial aid budget. Your budget can be viewed on MyUB, in your My Student Center > View Financial Aid > Financial Aid Budget (lower left of screen). This is the maximum amount you can receive in all financial aid combined. This includes scholarships, tuition remission, loans, grants, etc.
The Graduate Plus Loan is a federal loan, but is credit based, therefore it is subject to credit approval by Direct Loans. Additional information on the Graduate Plus Loan is available at http://www.ubalt.edu/admission/financial-aid/types-of-aid/loans/direct-graduate-plus-.cfm.
Once you have been awarded financial aid for summer, you will be able to see your award on MyUB and you will receive as summer award letter. You will still need to:
- Accept your award on MyUB. Remember, students never have to accept the full amount offered. You may choose to reduce it by putting a check in the accept box, and using your cursor to reduce the amount, then use the SUBMIT button to complete the transaction. Always accept any Stafford eligibility before any Graduate Plus eligibility as the Stafford is cheaper.
- Complete checklist items. If this is your first Graduate Plus Loan at UB you will need to complete a Graduate Plus Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov. Do NOT use the "apply for Plus Loan" but the Complete MPN. If you have not done so in the past you will also need to complete the Graduate version of the Entrance Counseling.
