Abuzz with excitement for what lies ahead
A warm welcome for President Kurt L. Schmoke
Since the May announcement of Kurt L. Schmoke’s appointment as the University of Baltimore’s eighth president, there’s been excitement in the air on campus and around town. We could try to put into words how ecstatic we are to have him begin his next chapter at UB, but we’d rather let others do the talking.
“I think he’s going to continue to raise us up and put us on the map. I want the University of Baltimore not just to be a hometown university but to be a university in our state that’s a tremendous source of pride.”
–Steven D. Cohen, assistant professor in the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences’ Klein Family School of Communications Design, to The Baltimore Sun

–Bernard C. “Jack” Young, president of the Baltimore City Council, on Facebook
“I think it’s a mark of how important this university is in Baltimore that the former mayor would come to be our president. We play a central role in this community, and he will make that role even more prominent.”
