Protecting Your Intellectual Property
About this event
Regardless of the type of business you are running, your intellectual property is likely your most valuable asset. Well explore the various types of intellectual property from trademark and copyrights to patents and trade secrets, discuss when they are appropriate and how to use them to protect your business.
About the presenter
Ken Malone is the co-founder of Early Charm. For a dozen years Early Charm has been creating, owning, and operating ventures that convert university inventions into commercial products. Ken serves on the Investment Committee of Innovation Work’s Ignite Capital Fund, the Industrial Advisory Board for the Polymer Program at Coppin State University, the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business Advisory Board, the Technology Advancement Center Advisory Board, and routinely mentors entrepreneurs at MICA, University of Baltimore, Open Works, Novella Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Department of Energy’s SBIR program. Prior to co-founding Early Charm, he served 7 years in concurrent roles at the University of Southern Mississippi including Chief Operating Officer, founding Director of the National Center for Economic Development & Entrepreneurship, Chair of the Department of Economic & Workforce Development while also co-founding several biotech companies. His early career included 10 years in the heavy chemicals and plastics industry in roles including manufacturing, marketing, product development, business management and mergers & acquisitions. He has a PhD in Polymer Science and a BS in Biochemistry.

About the Workshops
The CEI sponsors programming throughout the year focused on entrepreneurial learning and growth. Our weekly thinkUBator Workshop series has one goal: to provide CEI member companies with the knowledge and resources they need — access to seed capital, finding potential partners, hiring employees, marketing do’s and don’ts, etc. — to transform their big ideas into a big deal, as quickly as possible.
