Principles, Policies and Resources

You can make a mark on campus and in the community.

But before you start, make sure you understand our principles and policies.

    • Guiding Principles

      Vision: Our vision is a campus of student leaders who challenge themselves and their assumptions, leverage their talents and strengths, think critically about the problems facing people and organizations, and engage on a deep level with their communities.

      Mission: Our mission is to prepare students, through professional workshops and service-learning opportunities, to lead and serve the UB community and their own communities.

    • Core Values
      Integrity:  Personal integrity means being accountable for one’s actions, considering the ethical implications of challenging situations, and always maintaining the highest standards of conduct.

      Civic Responsibility: Leaders must demonstrate their commitment not only to their personal growth but to the growth and well-being of their communities. Great leaders give back to their communities through faithful service.

      Global Awareness: Leadership and service requires a deep appreciation for other cultures and other perspectives. We must not only embrace those who are different from us, but learn from and celebrate those differences.

      Personal and Professional Growth: We believe that learning is a lifelong journey and that, to be successful, we must develop professional skills, leverage our strengths, and nurture a healthy and balanced life.

    • Joining and Cancelling Activities
      Signing up for events: use CSI Link to search for upcoming events. Please read the event description carefully and contact the event organizers for further information. Some events require participants to R.S.V.P. 24 hours in advance.

      Event participation: Get the full benefit of our workshops and activities, participants must attend the workshop or activity in its entirety. Participants more than five minutes late will not receive credit.

      Cancelling attendance: We require 24 hours notice in the event of a cancellation. To cancel, please call 410.837.5417 or email bemore@ubalt.edu. Repeated absences without prior notification may result in dismissal from the program.
    • Leadership and Service Council
      The Leadership and Service Council is a group of students responsible for planning, developing and implementing the leadership and service program at UB. These students are instrumental in planning leadership workshops and retreats, as well as a variety of service and community engagement activities.

      Council members receive special training on individual and team strengths, event planning, promotion, group facilitation, community engagement, team building, budgeting and more. They also have the opportunity to work in teams and develop personal and professional networks with fellow students, members of the community, and UB faculty and staff.
    • Leadership Resources
      All UB students may use the leadership resources located in Student Center, Room 303. These resources include a variety of materials that focus on leadership skills, including books, magazines and DVDs. Resources may be checked out for up to two weeks. Failure to return resources within two weeks may result in disciplinary action, including removal from Be More and other sanctions.
Eubie Awards

Eubie Awards: A Celebration of Student Life and Leadership

All Be More participants are invited to the Eubie Awards, an awards ceremony put on by the Rosenberg Center for Student Involvement each May.

The awards ceremony recognizes students who have made great contributions to many areas of UB’s campus life, including in student organizations, leadership and community engagement, and service-learning.

Be More participants who have completed certificates and other special recognitions for leadership and service will be acknowledged.
