As former Senator for the Merrick School of Business I have learned and grown into my position to serve my peers. Throughout my term I have created connections with faculty and staff who are eager to hear more from the students. This upcoming year I would like to continue serving my fellow peers and developing stronger bonds with the connections I have already created and continue to create new ones. I am already heavily involved on our campus and I’m automatically always helping out any student in need. Whether it is connecting them to a career coach, telling them about an organization on campus they might be interested in or just guiding them to the right person to talk to, I have always loved to help my fellow classmates. This coming term I hope to serve more of my students and get more of them involved on campus as well. I would like to start a tradition that allows students to network beyond their own classrooms, getting to know the faculty and staff who are eager to meet them. To find a better way to give students feedback addressing their concerns. To have more of my peers voicing their issues in person rather than on a piece of paper. To fight apathy by letting you know that you're invited to these events hosted on our campus, that there are lectures and opportunities to get involved with the UB community. Many of us fail to realize that we aren’t in high school anymore, that we have a say about our classes, about our curriculums and about what we as students need to succeed both in and outside of the classroom. Vote for Janey Partin, allow me to continue serving you because this is your UB and I want to make the best of it."
My name is Geoff Parnell and I want your vote for University of Baltimore Student Government Senate. This is my second year at UB and I take great pride in our school. Like many of you, I arrived here feeling lost and unaware of opportunities available. I've really had to work hard to learn what this great school has to offer and how I can help make it better. As your elected representative, I want to break the separation between your experiences and desires in order to bring positive change. I have spent all of 2013 participating in all Senate meetings and have contributed regularly as well as been a listed guest speaker. I have had the opportunity to learn how the Senate works and where it doesn't. I'm interested in continuing to communicate with my fellow students so that you can feel you have a voice. The Senate is an opportunity to get the changes and benefits you want. I am not afraid to stand up for what you want and what is right. I have experience and I am excited to join the upcoming Senate class to take action quickly. I want to make sure that the students of the Merrick School of Business are heard prominently and that your tuition benefits you how you want.
UB is entering its second year of student government. While the inaugural Senate worked valiantly against difficult odds, we can do better. This is the time for new leadership. And so I would like to endorse Artour Parsadanian for the other available seat. Together we will bring new perspective, new initiative and a renewed sense of commitment to representing the UB community. We want to listen to you. We are dedicated to you and your goals. We want to be your voice for the Merrick School of Business. Let us take your concerns and ideas forward and create solutions. We know that student life can be better for all of us. Artour and I share that passion for UB and we strive to improve it in any way possible. With stronger leadership we will.
My name is Artour and I am running for the University of Baltimore’s Student Government Senate. I arrived at the University of Baltimore in the spring of 2012 with uncertainty about my decision, and furthermore with unclear expectations. In time I discovered that I had gravely underestimated this institution. The University of Baltimore is on the rise, and I take great comfort in knowing that I am a part of the movement. I feel that I have been presented with a tremendous opportunity to contribute to its growing success. This success begins with you, the students. It is you the students who have the most to gain from your experiences here and therefore reserve the right to demand the best environment in order to succeed. I know that there is a great level of disconnect between the Student Government Association and the student body. Communication is the key; the Student Government Association receives its funding from your Tuition and Fees. Shouldn’t you have a say in where the money goes? I will listen to your comments, concerns, and complaints with no judgment in mind. Even the smallest of ideas may be shared by at least one other student, and that’s good enough for me. Having served on the executive board of a national fraternity, I have experienced firsthand the relationship between students and their governing body. Through this experience I have learned that struggles will exist, as both sides will have high expectations from one another. In these times, and all others, I will represent you; I will fight for you, and I will put my reputation on the line for you.
