Freshman Orientation

This is where you start.

8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

As a new student, your presence is required. RSVP as soon as possible so we know you're coming.

Freshman Orientation is designed for you. During the day, you will:

  • be welcomed into the UB community
  • learn about college life and culture
  • learn about campus resources and facilities (and where to go for what)
  • get a feel for your academic requirements and how to build a path to success
  • explore student services and ways to get involved
  • get to know your classmates and faculty
  • begin building relationships with UB community including faculty, staff and other students.

International Student Orientation Schedule

You'll attend all the sessions in the Student Orientation Schedule but participate in special breakout sessions starting with lunch at 12:45 p.m.

  • 12:45-2:35 p.m.: International Orientation Lunch, Welcome, Programs (Required Breakout for International Students)
  • 2:40-3:05 p.m.: International Student Tour

    The day will begin at the Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric.

    • 8:30-9:15 a.m.: Check In, Continental Breakfast and Resource Fair, Eubie Photo Opportunity
    • 9:20-9:40 a.m.: Orientation Welcome
    • 9:45-10:15 a.m.: Orientation Group Assignments,

      Ice Breaker and Review of Day's Schedule: "What To Expect, What To Get Out of It ... "

    • 10:20-10:50 a.m.: "Looking Back, I Wish I Had Known ... ": Led by Orientation Ambassadors
    • 10:55-11:30 a.m.: Life in UB Midtown
    • 11:40 a.m.-12:40 p.m.: Academic Overview, Secrets to Student Success and Staying on Track to Graduation
    • 12:45-1:30 p.m.: Lunch in Orientation Groups With Advisers, Staff and Faculty
    • 1:40-2:05 p.m.: Get Involved! Breakout Sessions, Tours, Bee Cards
    • 2:10-2:35 p.m.: Get Involved! Repeated Breakout Sessions, Tours, Bee Cards
    • 2:40-3:05 p.m.: Get Involved! Repeated Breakout Sessions, Tours, Bee Cards
    • 3:10-3:35 p.m.: Interactive Faculty Panel led by Orientations Ambassadors
    • 3:40-4 p.m.: Taking Care of Business: Last-Minute Bee Card, Parking Voucher (Trade Assessments for Vouchers), Barnes & Noble Coupon Pick-Up, Etc.
    • 3:45-4:30 p.m.: Ice Cream Social, Good Bye and Hello!, Eubie Photo Opportunity

    Freshmen: Your parents and family members are encouraged to orientation attend with you.

    • 1:40-2:05 p.m.: Academic Overview, Secrets to Student Success and Identifying Ways to Support Students to Graduation
    • 2:10-3:05 p.m.: Student Development Outside of the Classroom and "Any Other Questions?"
    • 3:10-3:35 p.m.: Interactive Faculty Panel Led by Orientations Ambassadors
    • 3:40-4 p.m.: Taking Care of Business: Last-Minute Bee Card, Parking Voucher (Trade Assessments for Vouchers), Barnes & Noble Coupon Pick-Up, Etc.
    • 3:45-4:30 p.m.: Ice Cream Social, Good Bye and Hello!, Eubie Photo Opportunity

Orientation is a requirement for all new students. Your parents and family members are encouraged to attend with you. If an emergency arises and you are unable to attend, please contact your admission counselor or email admission@ubalt.edu to make alternate arrangements.
