On Saturday, October 10, UB’s Digital Designers Guild--a student-led organization that provides professional development opportunities for students interested in working in the game development and design industry--hosted its first Maryland League Championship at The Universities at Shady Grove campus. The event was a team competition based on Riot Games' official League of Legends Tournament rules consisting of a 5v5 (five player versus five player) format.
A tournament bracket was set up online through Challonge.com, three live streamers streamcasted the entire event on Twitch.tv, and a livestream viewing room was set up for all visitors, fans, and spectators. Students from several area universities participated in the competition, but in the end, UMBC Black won the championship. Video Game Publisher and Riot Games donated prizes for the top-placing teams.
