How is the federal economic stimulus affecting the economies of Maryland and Baltimore? Would the recession have been harder on the state and its largest metropolitan area without it? Is the stimulus being directed at "shovel-ready" projects, as originally intended, or are other, more long-term priorities like education and the environment proving to be more efficacious?
The University of Baltimore's next offering in the Rosenberg Dialogue Series will bring together expert panelists to consider "An Overview of the Economy: Maryland, Baltimore and the Economic Stimulus" on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11:30 a.m. This discussion, free and open to the public, will feature a mix of perspectives on the stimulus. The event will take place in the Moot Court Room of the University of Baltimore School of Law, 1415 Maryland Ave. A question-and-answer session will immediately follow the discussion (attendance details below).
Panelists include Matthew D. Gallagher, chief of staff to Gov. Martin O'Malley, and Anirban Basu, chairman and CEO of the Sage Policy Group, an economic research and legislative analysis firm in Baltimore. Alan Lyles, the Henry A. Rosenberg Professor of Public, Private and Nonprofit Partnerships at UB, will serve as moderator.
The event is free, but an R.S.V.P. is requested. R.S.V.P. at http://scpp.ubalt.edu/rosenberg.htm or call Kimberly Hall at 410.837.6257.
