Spotlight UB and An die Musik Live will co-produce two live performances by the acclaimed Poulenc Trio as well as two jazz pianist concerts during the Spotlight UB 2009-10 season.
The Poulenc Trio, an oboe, a bassoon and a pianist, will feature Korean American soprano Hyunah Yu on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in the University's Student Center Performing Arts Theater, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave.
The Poulenc Trio combines modern vibrancy with European instrumental tradition to produce what The Washington Post called "an intriguing and beautifully played program" with "convincing elegance, near effortless lightness and grace."
Joining them for their first UB performance this season is Hyunah Yu, a South Korean-born soprano who trained at the Peabody Conservatory at The Johns Hopkins University, where she received a master of music degree and an artist diploma. She first gained recognition in 1999 as a soloist with the New England Bach Festival, and has consistently impressed critics and fans with her impeccable musicianship and readiness to explore new repertoire. The Baltimore Sun described her lyrical voice as "lovely ... with diamond purity."
The Poulenc Trio's second UB performance, on March 26, will feature Metropolitan Opera principal clarinetist and Avery Fisher Career Grant winner Anthony McGill. Spotlight UB is proud to feature concerts by artists from the worlds of classical, folk, and ethnic musical traditions.
Tickets for the trio's Sept. 25 performance are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors and UB faculty and staff, and $10 for students. Tickets for this performance are available at www.etix.com; use "University of Baltimore" in the search window. Tickets will also be available at the Performing Arts Theater one hour before the show.
Parking is available on event nights in UB's Maryland Avenue Garage, located between Biddle and Chase Streets. With a voucher provided at the garage office, the parking fee is $4.
