Spotlight UB will kick off Halloween in grand literary style with its annual "Poe Night," an evening of readings from some of the author's best known works, on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Performing Arts Theater, 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue.
Renowned Baltimore actor, director and Poe impersonator Tony Tsendeas will perform Poe classics The Raven, The Telltale Heart and The Black Cat. Tsendeas's engaging and masterful Poe performances are a regular fixture at the Edgar Allan Poe Society and the Westminster Burial Ground, where he performs every Halloween night. Interspersed between recitations, the floor will be opened to the audience for ghost stories told to the haunting strains of cellist Kate Porter.
The UB Student Events Board will co-sponsor a light reception, included in the ticket price. Beginning at 7 p.m., the reception will be hosted in the adjacent Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room prior to the performance.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $2 for students and UB alumni, faculty and staff, and are available online at www.etix.com.
Spotlight UB features concerts by artists from the worlds of classical, folk and ethnic musical traditions, as well as open-mike nights, live comedy, drama and one-of-a-kind performances. Details on upcoming events in the 2009-10 Spotlight UB season are available here. For more information about the series, send an e-mail to spotlightub@ubalt.edu.
