Artscape, the nation's largest free arts festival, will take place on and around the University of Baltimore campus on July 18-20. UB welcomes the more than 350,000 folks who will spend time at this unique gathering of artists, fashion designers, performers and vendors.
This year, UB will host Gamescape, a showcase for video games and the endlessly creative people who make them. Visitors to the Gamescape site can try new games, including some that University of Baltimore students and faculty members in the Simulation and Digital Entertainment program have created. For those who require access to the UB campus prior to and during Artscape, check out the following traffic information:
Beginning Monday, July 14, street closures will impact the campus. Various streets will be closed, detours set up, and traffic re-routed to make way for festival activities. You should be aware that the volume of traffic will increase dramatically during the festival.
Current plans call for allowing access to the Fitzgerald Garage via Maryland Avenue, which will become a two-way street between Oliver Street and North Avenue starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 18 and continuing until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 21. Beginning July 18, access to the Maryland Ave Garage will be via Chase Street to the Cathedral Street entrance to the garage.
The Jones Falls Expressway (I-83) will be open in both directions. To access campus from the south, take I-83 northbound to the North Avenue exit and follow the signs to Maryland Avenue. From the north, take I-83 southbound to the Maryland Avenue exit.
During the festival, UB faculty, staff and students who use pre-tax parking, monthly parking, or have purchased a parking plan, may use their Bee Card to access either the Maryland Avenue or Fitzgerald Garage, regardless of garage assignment. Bee Cards will be programmed to access both facilities from Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 25. Parkers who use pay-per-park by pulling a ticket are not affected.
