The University of Baltimore's spring 2015 Spotlight UB performance series features an eclectic mix of art and entertainment events, spanning from classical to deconstructed music and an Irish short play, to theatrical stories from the voice of poet Amiri Baraka. Taking place in UB's lauded Wright Theater at 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave., Spotlight UB's spring events will provide a showcase for University of Baltimore voices, with its production of faculty member Lenneal Henderson's one-man A. Philip Randolph show. It also resumes its successful partnerships with the Aspen String Trio and Maryland Irish Charities. The University continues to provide Baltimore with a varied and engaging performance arts selection.
Spotlight UB's spring schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Feb. 17
7 p.m.
Director Rosalind Cauthen brings to UB an Arena Players production of Amiri Baraka's play, Slave Ship, which tracks the history of the Middle Passage. Augmented with media by Bashi Rose and live African drumming, the powerful work kicks off the season and the 7th annual African-American Arts Festival.
$5 general admission; students free
Wednesday, Feb. 18
2 p.m.
UB Arts and Theatre Manager Kimberley Lynne directs a reading of Suzan-Lori Parks's Pulitzer Prize winning play, Topdog/Underdog. The story of two black brothers and their struggle for identity and power, the production is part of Lynne's playwriting class. The reading will be followed by a talk back with the audience.

Thursday, Feb. 19
1 p.m.
Faculty member Lenneal Henderson performs his one-man play about labor organizer and civil rights activist A. Philip Randolph. An Art and Eat program, light fare will be served post show.

Tuesday, March 10
7 p.m.
The Aspen String Trio returns to campus with a concert of famous dance compositions. Radio personality and historian Jonathan Palevsky will once again provide historical context to the music.
$15 general, $10 seniors/UB staff and faculty, and $5 students/alumni
Thursday, March 26
12:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Irish Culture professor Kimberley Lynne directs William Butler Yeats's short and terrifying existential masterpiece, Purgatory. Featuring Irish Literature faculty Steve Matanle and local actor Michael Zemarel, the play will be followed by a short talk back.
$15 general, $10 seniors/UB staff and faculty, and $5 students/alumni
Monday, April 13
Noon
New Muse Piano Duo ruminates on the passage of time with music composed within the last four years. This pair of modern pianists will perform on both pianos. An Art and Eat program, light fare will be served post show.

7 p.m.
Dublin poet Nessa O'Mahony visits the campus for a reading of her work and the work of other female Irish poets.

Wednesday, April 29
5:30 p.m.
A staged reading of a great legal case will be performed as part of Professor Samantha McDermitt's class. McDermitt adapts great cases to a play format for further exploration of the law.
