Spotlight UB will present a concert of live folk music by Roger Friskey, lecturer in the University of Baltimore's Klein Family School of Communications Design, on Thursday, April 9 at noon on the second floor of the Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. The performance is free and open to the public.
Friskey, a guitarist and songwriter, teaches persuasive writing and corporate communications at UB. He has an extensive and versatile background in communication media, including a lengthy career as a television reporter, a globe-trotting public relations specialist for a major oil company, and as the owner of his own consulting firm.
But Friskey is always happy to infuse his professional expertise and communications lectures with musical endeavors. Students at UB have come to know him by the send-off serenade he gives, on guitar or ukulele, to his classes at the end of each semester. In the summer of 2013, he taught a songwriting workshop in which students not only learned to compose, but also analyzed lyrics and dissected the workings of the music industry. A profile by Baltimore Fishbowl called Friskey "the Singing Professor."
