Privacy breaches to electronic health records and related financial data are happening faster and more frequently than ever. Recently, a breach at a major provider gave unauthorized access to the personal health information of 78.8 million. In light of this and other disturbing developments in the realm of health care privacy, the University of Baltimore's Rosenberg Dialogue Series will host a panel discussion, "Cybersecurity: Is Patient Privacy Extinct?," on Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in UB's William H. Thumel Sr. Business Center (home of the Merrick School of Business), 11 W. Mt. Royal Ave. The event is free and open to the public; an R.S.V.P. is requested (details listed below).
Panelists include:
- Kirk Grothe, vice president-federal, Government Group, Truven Health Analytics
- Charles Tumosa, professor of the practice in the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore
Alan Lyles, the Henry A. Rosenberg Professor of Government, Business and Nonprofit Partnerships at UB, will serve as facilitator.
Join these academic and public- and private sector experts for an interactive and in-depth discussion about patient privacy. Panelists will discuss the issue as it relates to the interaction between public-sector laws and private-sector initiatives and will offer insight into lessons learned and next steps.
A question-and-answer session with the audience will follow.
This event qualifies as a health ethics colloquium for UB students.
