The University of Baltimore's Outdoors Club will host Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 6. It's part of a national celebration of the growing popularity of commuting by bicycle. At UB, there will be events held throughout the day, plus a discussion about plans for improving conditions for bicyclists across Baltimore.
From 8 to 9:30 a.m., faculty, staff and student bicyclists coming to campus can stop by Gordon Plaza and pick up a free donut and a T-shirt (while supplies last).
At noon, a brown bag discussion, "Bicycling in Baltimore Today," will take place in Room 215 of the Learning Commons. Baltimore City Bicycle and Pedestrian Planner Caitlin Doolin, Bikemore Executive Director Greg Hinchcliffe and UB Sustainability Planner Jeff LaNoue will speak. This event is free and open to the public. The talk will emphasize bicycling plans near UB and their effects on the campus. It is sponsored by the Department of Facilities Management and Capital Planning and the Helen P. Denit Honors Program.
At 4 p.m., "BYOBicycle" (bring your own bicycle!) and take a ride along the Jones Falls Trail, just minutes from campus. Meet at Gordon Plaza with a bicycle in good condition. The ride will cover about six miles and will include some moderate hills.
From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., free pizza and T-shirts (while supplies last) for bike commuters and those who participate in the Jones Falls Trail ride will be available on Gordon Plaza.
This event is presented by the UB Outdoors Club, the Helen P. Denit Honors Program, UB Green and the UB Walking and Bicycling Committee.
More information about this event is available by contacting Laura Melamed or Christine Wertz.
