In The Washington Post, Jeffrey Ian Ross, professor of criminology in UB's School of Criminal Justice, analyzes a recent confrontation between a Texas police officer and a driver during what began as a routine traffic stop.
Ross, viewing a dash camera recording of the event as it deteriorates into a violent struggle, says "it comes across as a confrontation."
The driver, who later died in jail, is not compliant with the officer's various demands, Ross notes. But he questions the officer's training and level of professionalism.
"This could have been avoided," Ross concludes.
