A poll conducted by the University of Baltimore's Schaefer Center for Public Policy reveals a wide range of beliefs concerning the effectiveness of police in Baltimore. The survey finds that 22 percent of city residents say police are effective at fighting crime, while more than 60 percent of polled residents in counties in metropolitan Baltimore and more than 50 percent in other parts of Maryland believe that Baltmore police are handling crime in an effective manner.
Ann Cotten, director of the Schaefer Center, tells the Baltimore Sun, "It's very telling that this is a very different perception of what's going on with police."
Cotten presented initial results from the telephone survey at a conference at UB on Oct. 6.
