Die, Mr. Darcy, Die!, a new comedy by local Dramatists Guild of America member and playwright John Morogiello, will receive a staged reading on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Baltimore's Wright Theater, located in the UB Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. Spotlight UB and the Dramatists Guild are partnering to present the play, which tells the tale of a young woman who is frustrated by dating and the impossible standards of Jane Austen's classic hero from Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy.
The Dramatists Guild hosts Baltimore Footlights series of free readings in order to give their members the opportunity to experience new work in a live setting and to workshop with the audience and actors. Spotlight UB Arts and Theater Manager Kimberley Lynne is a Guild member and created this partnership with local Guild representative Brent Englar, who, in exchange, taught a class on business in the arts as part of UB's Integrated Arts program.
Morogiello is a playwright in residence at the Maryland State Arts Council and a member of the Dramatists Guild. His plays have been produced at theaters in New York, North America, and Europe. He is a regular contributor to Flagpole Radio Cafe. His articles have been published in American Theatre, Dramatics, the Washington Independent Review of Books, and in study guides for Long Wharf Theatre, Huntington Theatre Co., and Everyman Theatre. Morogiello is a 2015 grant recipient from the Boomerang Fund for Artists.
Admission to this performance is free to the general public.
This event, as with most Spotlight UB events, takes place at the Wright Theater, located at 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave. in Baltimore. For more information about Spotlight UB, send an e-mail to spotlightub@ubalt.edu.
