Economics Professor: Local Growth in Manufacturing Receives Boost from Incentives

Ting Zhang, assistant professor in the University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business, tells the Baltimore Business Journal that an uptick in local manufacturing is likely due in part to federal incentives for worker training and development.
Zhang says that Maryland is joining states across the nation in experiencing slight growth in manufacturing, thanks to higher transportation costs and wages in regions where there has been a significant amount of outsourcing. The federal government, she tells the newspaper, is pushing incentives to employers to provide on-the-job training and workforce development, and this also has stimulated manufacturing.
