Adrian Boafo, a senior at the University of Baltimore and president of the UB Student Government Association, has been named vice president for undergraduate affairs for the University System of Maryland Student Council. Boafo, who is majoring in government and public policy at UB, was selected by his fellow council members. The USM Student Council is the representative body for undergraduate and graduate students at the 12 USM institutions, including the University of Baltimore.
"Adrian's passion for student issues and proven record of accomplishments will serve him well as vice president," said USMSC President Gayon M. Sampson.
The position of vice president for the council includes leadership for a committee of undergraduate student body presidents throughout the academic year. In this capacity, Boafo will identify best practices and understand challenges facing each USM institution. The council reports that he has begun working with the council’s executive board on issues of multiculturalism and diversity.
The University System of Maryland Student Council is one of four councils established during the restructuring of higher education in Maryland in 1988 to provide advice to the Chancellor and the Board of Regents. The USMSC ensures that the USM leadership is aware of student perspectives and responsive to student concerns and issues. Each degree-granting institution in the USM has two representatives to the USMSC. The group meets monthly throughout the school year; its meetings rotate among USM campuses. Among the specific responsibilities of the USMSC is the recommendation to the Chancellor each year for transmittal to the Governor of a group of nominees for the position of USM Student Regent.
