Category: WebExtras
Not only is Bhoja “Narayan” Shrestha, a graduate global affairs and human security student, a well-known radio and television personality in Nepal, he’s also a published poet. He’s the author of two books of poetry, Deceased Portrait (2003) and Witness (2010). Shrestha translated a poem from the former book for us:
By the Threshold
Standing by the evening’s threshold
Shall I see the day gone by
Or wait about to the night
Days, months … enjoyed together
Poems composed in romantic mood
Twinkling eyes engraved in a piece of dream
Dreams of song sung in the trail
And unerased impressions
Reminiscence of drizzle experienced together
Dreams at night envisioned together
No more are they around
At this moment
As I am ready to garner those dreams
And ready to founding it
My feelings vanish right from my pen’s nib
Now the glow of setting sun merely in memory
Waiting around a night … and then another day
A monotonous framing of drizzle on weathering leaves
Narrow lanes between paddy fields
And the fancy of dark portent
Spilling beam of moon all over the trail
My longings to cultivate a bright day
The brightness of eternal sun
Holy Mountain, mighty river
Oh! My lord
This life
My life, raised in desires.
