Graduate Teaching Assistantships

The University Writing Program (UWP) offers a small number of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) each year. The GTA program is an excellent way to gain experience teaching first-year composition with mentoring and support from instructors and administrators of the UWP. These positions offer a cash stipend and partial tuition waiver as compensation for teaching two sections of WRIT courses and completing the other requirements of the program.

Assistantships are a one-semester appointment, renewable for a second semester with satisfactory work. Announcements about applications are made in March or April and sent to all Creative Writing & Publishing Arts students. The process is quite competitive; applicants must have completed CWPA 761 Teaching Writing by the start of their assistantship or have experience teaching college-level composition.
