UBalt accepts up to 30 credits for first-year applicants from the following sources:
Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores
College Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores
DSST exams
International Baccalaureate (IB) exam scores
How these credits apply toward your degree will be determined by the relevant academic office.
AP credits may count toward general education requirements, electives, or, in some cases, major requirements. An AP exam can satisfy both a general education and major requirement if both standards are met. However, it cannot satisfy both a general education and an elective requirement, or both an elective and a major requirement. If the AP credit is for a general education requirement, it may be used as a general elective instead. Under no circumstances can a single AP exam be awarded more than the number of credits indicated in the table below.
*for the Environmental Sustainability and Human Ecology major
for the Forensic Studies major, Forensic Science concentration (transfer students only)
*for the Government and Public Policy major
*for the International Studies major
*for the Psychology major
CLEP exams are accepted for credit before completing 90 credit hours, typically for general education or elective requirements. Once you’ve started your final 30 credits, CLEP scores will no longer be accepted.
CLEP credits can count toward general education, electives, or, in some cases, major requirements. However, an exam cannot fulfill both a general education and an elective requirement, or both an elective and a major requirement. CLEP credits will not exceed the credit value listed below. If the UBalt equivalency is for a general education requirement, the credits may be used as a general elective.
