Getting to UBalt is easy! Whether you're a student, visitor, or faculty/staff member, there are multiple transportation options to make your journey convenient. Explore the different ways you can travel to and from UBalt Midtown.

Penn Station

Penn Station

Located just steps from the UBalt campus, Penn Station is the eighth busiest train station in the U.S. It serves multiple bus lines, MARC, and Amtrak trains. With frequent departures between Washington, D.C., and New York City, you can catch a train every hour on most days.

Light Rail

Light Rail

The Light Rail connects UBalt to downtown, nearby suburbs, and BWI Airport. The University of Baltimore/Mount Royal station is located at the corner of Oliver Street and Mount Royal Avenue, just west of the Fitzgerald Garage and main campus buildings.

The Light Rail operates north-south, running from Hunt Valley to Glen Burnie. Tickets are priced at a flat rate of $1.60 each way. Discounted monthly passes are also available.

For schedules and maps, visit the MTA Light Rail website. The Light Rail system has 33 stations, and vending machines are available for ticket purchases. 

MARC

MARC

MARC is a commuter train connecting suburbs north and south of Baltimore. Major destinations include Penn Station (just adjacent to UBalt), BWI Airport, New Carrollton, and Washington, D.C.'s Union Station. To the north, MARC serves several locations, including Aberdeen. Monthly passes are available for frequent travelers.

UBalt is just one block south of Penn Station (Amtrak and MARC services) on Charles Street.

MTA Buses

MTA Buses

MTA buses connect the majority of the Baltimore region, with several routes serving the UBalt campus, including lines 3, 11, 61, 64, and 21. Discounted monthly passes are available.

UBalt is conveniently located along key metropolitan bus routes, as well as regional commuter bus routes. Additionally, the University offers free shuttle bus service for students, faculty, and staff.

Metro Subway

Metro Subway

The MTA Metro Subway offers convenient service southbound to Lexington Market, downtown, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Northwest-bound trains stop at Mondawmin Mall and continue through neighborhoods and suburbs toward Owings Mills.

UBalt is located just four blocks east of the Maryland State Office Building Metro Subway Station. Discounted monthly passes are available for frequent riders.

Bolt Bus

Bolt Bus

BoltBus departs daily from 1578 Maryland Ave. (just one block from UBalt) with multiple trips to Midtown Manhattan and Newark International Airport.

 

Charm City Circulator

The free, eco-friendly Charm City Circulator operates a fleet of 21 hybrid electric vehicles across four routes:

  • Purple Route (North-South): Connects Federal Hill and the Cross Street Market area with Johns Hopkins University and Charles Village at 33rd Street (closest stop to UBalt).
  • Orange Route (East-West): Links Hollins Market and the B&O Railroad Museum with the Inner Harbor, Harbor East, and Fells Point.
  • Green Route: Connects Johns Hopkins Hospital with Fells Point and City Hall.
  • Banner Route: Travels from the Inner Harbor to Fort McHenry.

 Guaranteed Ride Home

The Guaranteed Ride Home program offers commuters who regularly carpool, vanpool, bike, walk, or take transit to work a free and reliable ride home when an unexpected emergency occurs. Commuters can use this service up to four times per year for emergencies like personal illness or a sick child.

The service also covers unscheduled overtime if your employer requires you to stay late. Guaranteed Ride Home ensures you won’t be stranded when life throws a curveball, allowing you to commute confidently, knowing a ride home is just a call away.
