When considering UBalt Ashleigh said "That kind of welcoming community and small campus feel" is what was most appealing to her when deciding on a university.
Ashleigh Johnson
Ashleigh Johnson is a junior at the University of Baltimore. Even though she was accepted to multiple universities, she chose UBalt because after interacting with the UBalt staff, she realized that they were excited about the work they’re doing here and treat students like individuals, just another number.
That kind of welcoming community and small campus feel is what appealed to her the most about this university. After she registered for classes at UBalt and started actively checking my UBalt email inbox, I happened to be browsing through the daily UBalt Digest email and saw that it mentioned that the E-Fellows program was now accepting applications. It piqued my interest, especially since entrepreneurship is a road I knew I wanted to take. She researched the program extensively and knew that it was the right fit for her and her business concept. Getting into the program was a turning point for Ashleigh, as she now had additional guidance and resources offered by the E-Fellows program to help her goal of being an entrepreneur to come to fruition.
Her business, Kaizen Nails, is a concierge mobile nail spa. Her inspiration for starting this business came from her own frustration with traditional nail salons and their current business model. Most nail salons are open during hours that don’t work for many of their customers, they have ridiculously long wait times, and their service is often subpar. Kaizen Nails will transform the nail care industry by offering clients one-on-one, top notch nail care services from the comfort of their own homes at a time that’s convenient to them. As of right now, the business is pre-revenue and she am actively working on the licensure and technology to launch in Fall 2020.
Eventually, she hopes to expand the business by hiring other nail technicians and estheticians who may be facing barriers to entry and are willing to take their business mobile. In ten years, she sees the business expanding to Kaizen Nails training and facilitating a large network of beauty professionals that have transformed the mobile beauty and self-care industry by setting a high standard of service with our commitment to living up to the meaning behind the : name of the company: "continuous improvement."
