The latest edition of Welter, the University of Baltimore’s literary magazine, will debut on Tuesday, May 16 with a special event beginning at 7 p.m. in the 5th floor multipurpose room of the UB Student Center, located at the corner of Maryland and Mt. Royal avenues. The event, free and open to the public, will feature readings from Welter contributors.
Welter is a product of students in the University’s graduate Creative Writing and Publishing Arts program. Under the direction of Kendra Kopelke, associate professor, students in the program build each annual edition of the magazine from the ground up, overseeing submissions, crafting cover designs and typography, and getting the issue printed and distributed to local outlets such as Artscape and the Baltimore Book Fair. Welter’s history dates back to 1965, when UB students gathered together their best creative writing in a single publication.
As in previous years, this year’s edition will feature both poetry and prose. More than 160 submissions were received by the magazine’s staff. Copies of the new edition will be avaialble for purchase at this event.
