This 36-credit Master of Science program—the first-ever program in Maryland—integrates a range of
interdisciplinary perspectives to give a broad understanding of what conflict is,
why it happens and how to resolve it. When you graduate, you will be prepared for
an exciting career managing conflict in many different arenas:
management and organizational settings, including employee and labor relations
health care, social work ad human services
public administration and non-governmental organizations
analyze, understand and address various forms of social conflict
work with individuals, communities, organizations, regulatory bodies, conflicting
social and ethnic groups, and even nations
promote understanding of conflict while mitigating its destructive aspects
negotiate, facilitate and pursue conflict transformation
embrace conflict as a catalyst for social change.

Your capstoneinternship experience will allow you to gain insight into practical applications of negotiation
and conflict management in the field. The program's remarkable range of internships

You are encouraged to join theNegotiations and Conflict Management Student Association, which keeps students in this master's program informed and educated about relevant
issues, provides peer support and guidance, and organizes events that nurture the
professional growth of the student body.

TheAlternatives to Violence Projectis an association of community, school, and prison-based programs offering experiential
workshops in personal growth, community development, and creative conflict management.
The CNCM program is partnering with AVP-Maryland to offer CNCM students a unique internship
opportunity to experience and facilitate the introduction of creative conflict management
and interpersonal skills to prison inmates – a desperately underserved population
with unlimited potential for growth.
The M.S. in Negotiations and Conflict Management program has partnered with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS)—a neutral and independent U.S. governmental agency that provides dispute resolution
and conflict management services across the public, private, and federal sectors—to
offer new educational and research opportunities for UBalt students and faculty and

The University of Baltimore and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) have entered into an agreement to launch a Community Violence Interruption
Certificate for employees of Baltimore's Safe Streets program. The certificate will
feature a curriculum developed by faculty in the CNCM program and UBalt's Schaefer

program's admission committee, be accepted if there is space available. Additional
