Parking and Transportation

Parking accounts at the campus $5 rate for students are available at the Fitzgerald Garage, which is owned and managed by a third party.  Account balances will be emailed to you regularly. 

**The Fitzgerald parking attendant has no capability to validate parking or take payments. Parkers who choose not to have a declining balance account can pay the market rate at the exit gate with credit or debit.

 

How to pay the student rate of $5 per park at the Fitzgerald Garage:

• Get your Bee Card, which is needed to enroll in student parking.
• Visit the student link, and create an account. 
• Load funds in any amount, and allow 24 hours for funds to become active.
• Access the Fitzgerald Garage using your Bee Card, from which the $5 campus parking rate will automatically be deducted for your parking visit, up to a 24 hour period.

Additional tips for the Fitzgerald Garage:

• Consider looking at the calendar to plan how many parking visits you expect to have, and remember that you can add additional funds at any time. For example, if you come to campus once per week, consider adding $80 ($5 x 16 visits to campus). Alternately, add about $20 per month during the semester.
• A  $5 "park" is defined as the period of time parked for "one in and one out", up to 24 hours. For example, if you enter the Fitzgerald Garage at 4:15pm, and exit at 12:01am, that is considered one park; if the car remains parked until 12:01am the next night, that is counted as 2 parks, with a charge of $10. 
• The funds will not expire, and will automatically roll over at the end of the semester.
• Fund balances will appear on the screen at the parking gate, and will be emailed weekly for your convenience.
• If you decide not to load funds into an account, you may pull a ticket at entry, and pay the market rate from your car with credit or debit at the exit gate. The cashier will no longer take payments of any kind. 
• If your Bee Card is replaced, contact ub@propark.com to update your Bee Card number in the system.
• The account will be held by a third party garage operator, There are no refunds. If you have questions, contact ub@propark.com.
• The shuttle stops inside the entrance of the garage.

Maryland Avenue Garage: 

Semester unlimited plans at the student rate are available. Semester plans run from August through December, January through May and June through July.  Access is 24/7; just scan in at the gate to open the overhead doors if closed, or to unlock the Biddle Street pedestrian doors. The shuttle stops on the corner of Maryland Avenue and Biddle Street, traveling along Maryland Avenue.

 

**The attendant at the Maryland Avenue Garage has no capability to take payments or validate parking at the campus rate. Parkers may choose to pull a ticket at entry, and pay the market rate at the exit gate using credit or debit.

FACULTY & STAFF PARKING

Pre-tax parking is a way to to pay for regular faculty and employees to pay for unlimited parking at the Fitzgerald Garage through payroll deductions. (The State only offers this benefit to regular exempt and non-exempt employees.) Under this option, the amount of the annual parking rate will be deducted in installments on a pre-tax basis from your bi-weekly pay throughout the year from late August through May, instead of paying for the permit in full at the time of purchase.

 

Regular employees may request pre-tax parking, then complete the secure form to enroll, cancel or re-enroll in pre-tax parking at this link at this link. For contractual employees who are not eligible for the pre-tax parking option, and infrequent parkers for whom it does not make sense to purchase pre-tax parking, the same account explained for students above, will allow you to create an account in advance and tap and go in and out at the Fitzgerald gate 24/7 with your Bee Card.  You may also pay the garage market rate in lane with credit or debit; the rates are posted in the garage.

 

More details about pre-tax parking: Pre-tax payroll deductions are a payment method for regular employees who need access to park in the Fitzgerald Garage. Pre-tax parkers have access to the Fitzgerald Garage 24/7 by scanning their Bee Card to enter and exit.

Payroll deductions begin in late August and stop in late May; the deductions are not “pay as you go”. The deduction amount is based on an annual parking rate, which is collected in 20 of 26 pay periods. So if it will benefit you to use pre-tax parking when the semester begins, sign up as of July 1, since the deductions will “catch up” the payments for July and August once they begin at the end of August.

 

PARKING FOR CONTRACTUAL AND ADJUNCT EMPLOYEES

As explained in the Faculty and Staff section above, the same account option available to students may be used to pay the $5 rate per park.  Pre-tax parking is not an option the State of Maryland provides to adjunct faculty or contractual employees.
