The University of Baltimore will hold commencement for its spring 2013 arts and sciences, public affairs and business graduates on Tuesday, May 21 at the Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at The Lyric, 140 W. Mt. Royal Ave. Commencement for undergraduate and graduate students will take place beginning at 2 p.m.
Legendary entertainer and education advocate Bill Cosby will provide the event's keynote address. From his formative years as a stand-up comedian, through his experiences as a star in films and television—most notably The Cosby Show during the 1980s—and on to his current endeavors as a respected advocate for education and for the role of the family in modern life, Cosby has used his gifts to contribute to a uniquely American dialogue about values, culture and personal responsibility.
In the course of his career, Cosby has earned accolades from innumerable institutions, including the Kennedy Center Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1998 and induction into the Television Hall of Fame in 1992.
Before Cosby's talk, UB Provost Joseph Wood will present him with the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
Also during the ceremony, Wood will officially present all candidates for degrees to Merrick School of Business Dean Darlene Smith, B.S. '78, M.B.A., '80, College of Public Affairs Dean Stephen L. Percy, Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences Dean Laura Bryan and President Robert L. Bogomolny, who will then confer degrees and certificates to all graduates. Thomas G. Slater, representative of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, Jeff Glock, B.S. '88, president of the UB Alumni Association, and Bogomolny will greet the graduates and their guests. Ron K. Williams, senior class representative, and Lyndsay D. Bates, graduate representative, will offer remarks.
A video of the ceremony is now available.
