The University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business and its Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation are offering two scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in entrepreneurship:
- The Ratcliffe Fellows Program offers a free, innovative way to earn an undergraduate college degree while working to launch a new business. The program, funded by the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation, provides a two-year scholarship in support of rising juniors to create, nurture and launch a new venture on or before their graduation. The "E-Fellows," as they are known at UBalt, balance classroom theory with periods of practical, hands-on experience working side by side with faculty and entrepreneurship experts and supported by the mentors, coaches and other resources in the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
As a Fellow, students participate in a two-year cohort program with like-minded, ambitious entrepreneurs and engage in an alternative academic study—gaining practical experience from members of the Baltimore business community while earning a B.S. in Business Administration degree. Participating students can focus on building their venture without worrying about paying for a college education.
Over the scholarship's four funded semesters (plus expenses), Ratcliffe Fellows meet with and learn from fellow student and alumni entrepreneurs, gain access to business coaching resources, exclusive workshops and networking events, and make connections and relationships inside the area's startup ecosystem.
Specialization requirements account for 15 of 120 credits required to graduate and cover topics such as entrepreneurial opportunities and markets, human capital in a new venture, economics of new ventures financing, and entrepreneurial strategy.

- The Merrick School of Business has launched a new scholarship opportunity for MBA students specializing in entrepreneurship. Thanks to an anonymous grant, UBalt created the Entrepreneurship Opportunity Scholars program. This program supports students with scholarship funding while they launch a new business venture. This is a competitive process with a maximum of five scholarships valued at $8,620 per year. The awardees will also receive a financial stipend of $1,000 per year. This is a great way for students to live out their entrepreneurial dreams while also earning a UBalt MBA.
The deadline to apply is June 23. Selected candidates will be invited to a mini business pitch competition on Aug. 1.
Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 GPA or higher—and maintain a 3.5 GPA while in the program. Both full-time and part-time MBA students are encouraged to apply. There is a preference for students who completed their undergraduate degree in business from an AACSB business school, but we also know each entrepreneur has their own path.
