ARC Workshops

The Academic Resource Center is offering the following workshops and seminars:

Computer Skills Training

Staff and students receive a discounted rate for hands-on training in small classes of 10 or less in Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe Creative Suite. Visit the Computer Skills Workshop page for the current schedule.

The price for four hours of Microsoft computer instruction is $29 for UB students, $39 for UB alumni and staff, and $59 for the general public. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are offered in two-hour workshops with a cost of $10 for UB students, $20 for UB staff and alumni and $30 for general public.

Professional Communication Series
 
The ARC offers several programs that can help you become a more confident and successful communicator. Take any one of the following, available for $15 for students, $20 for staff and alumni, or $30 for the general public. Or take all four and earn a Certificate of Achievement in Professional Communication, and receive a discounted fee $50 for students, $65 for staff and alumni, and $100 for the general public.

Fearless Public Speaking
Saturday, Nov. 7
9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Learn strategies for managing anxiety, communicating clearly verbally and non-verbally, and creating effective visuals.

The Nuts and Bolts of Professional E-Mail
Saturday, Nov. 7
10:30 a.m. – noon
Unprofessional e-mails are one of employers' top complaints. Learn how to portray a professional tone and how to create a clear, concise message.

Selling Your Ideas
Saturday, Nov. 21
9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Discover the art of influencing others, whether classmates, colleagues, or superiors. Learn how to put your ideas into action through the power of persuasion.

The Nuts and Bolts of Business Reports
Saturday, Nov. 21
10:30 a.m.– noon
Special topics in this workshop include organizing a clear and direct message, writing a strong abstract and summary, and using appropriate business language.

GMAT Verbal Reviews

UB undergraduates who completed 90 or more credits with at least a 3.0 GPA and alumni who graduated from UB within the last 12 months with at least a 3.0 GPA can receive 50 percent off the regular price of ARC's GMAT Verbal Reviews:

Critical Reasoning: Oct. 24, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Sentence Correction: Oct. 31, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Reading Comprehension: Nov. 7, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
